Digital Clock Example Doesn't Work

Xlerb
Hi All,

Complete NB novice so I'm probably doing something stupid.

Platform Linux Mint Maya 13: Netbeans Co-bundle d/load from Oracle - NB About gives...
Product Version: NetBeans IDE 7.4 (Build 201310111528)
Java: 1.7.0_45; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 24.45-b08
Runtime: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.7.0_45-b18
System: Linux version 3.2.0-23-generic running on i386; UTF-8; en_GB (nb)
User directory: /home/martin/.netbeans/7.4
Cache directory: /home/martin/.cache/netbeans/7.4

To get going I tried a sample project ... Try a Sample project, Samples, JavaFX, DigitalClock.
Builds (with a couple of warnings) and when run the application window 'Digital Clock' appears but apart from a top toolbar it's just a grey window. Clicking the X brings up a dialogue box "Digital clock is not responding " and I have to force a quit.

Same example on WinXP works fine.

Any guidance appreciated,
Cheers,
Martin.
