Apache proposal for NetBeans

geertjan.wielenga@oracle.com
Hi all,

A heads up -- we'd like to simplify and streamline the process of contributing and being part of the NetBeans ecosystem.

The current NetBeans governance model is quite opaque and invisible and we think having our project be an Apache project, like Apache Maven and Apache Groovy is a sensible direction to that end.

Here's the proposal published over the past hour:

https://wiki.apache.org/incubator/NetBeansProposal

Take note of the many initial committers, which includes James Gosling (father of Java), a range of developers from various organizations, as well as a big group from Oracle.

There's a LOT that needs to be done, though the proposal makes the intentions clear.

Onwards to exciting times,

Kind regards,

Geertjan Wielenga

I think Oracle has done a fine job with Netbeans but this sounds like the means to step up to the next level.

Exciting and scary at the same time. I have some additional thoughts that I'll share on the incubator list.

Above is a Twitter poll on NetBeans -- the more votes the better. :-) Come on over and let your voice be heard.

Thanks!
